Official Poker Rules

The official poker rules for a particular tournament or game have been compiled by the International Poker Federation (FIDPA). The rules are available free of charge online. They are similar to those established by the TDA, but differ slightly in wording. However, the general principle of the rules remains the same. A player must be allowed adequate time to decide on the next move.

When playing official poker online, the rules are very similar to those of live games. The first rule is that a player cannot change his seat after the game starts. Those who have paid to play will be given starting chips from the director. When a player is absent, the director will deal in the player whose seat he or she occupies. The director will also place all the chips needed for the antes and blinds into the pot.

The other rule of official poker is that all players must sign in. The sign-in sheet should include the Full Name and Member ID# of the person who is playing. The name and ID should be printed legibly and clearly. This applies to both phone and online registrations. Incomplete or illegible names or IDs will not be accepted. In addition, new players must fill out an application for membership and receive a WFP ID number.

New players must be treated respectfully and be patient. New players are likely to make mistakes and act out of turn. This can put them in a bad spot and ruin everyone’s fun at the table. They may also make mistakes that may not be their fault. They may not know all of the rules, so it is important to explain them to them. If a new player is treated badly, he or she will most likely never return.
